Meet Information

About Meets

Cancelations and Weather Delays

Notify coaches in advance: If your swimmer is unable to attend a meet and needs to cancel, notify the coaches in person or via email or telephone as soon as you can. This helps avoid last-minute changes to the line-up. Please note: swimmers should be out of the pool by 2:30 pm on meet days in order to rest for the meet.

Show up even if it's storming: For weather delays, all teams must wait out storms until 7 pm so as not to forfeit the meet. After 7 pm, the coaches and pool managers will come to an agreement either to continue the meet or reschedule. In other words, even if it is storming at 5 pm, you should come to the meet as scheduled. Often the weather clears and the meet can proceed.

Home Meets

Regular dual meets begin at 6:30 pm. For home meets, swimmers should be at the pool by5:15 pm. Parents who are helping to officiate the meet should be at the pool no later than 6:15 pm. Coaches will read a line-up for the meet (who is swimming what events) at practice the morning of the meet, and again at 5:30 pm in case changes are necessary.

Away Meets

Meets begin at 6:30 pm. Swimmers should plan to arrive at the away pool by 5:45 to hear the lineup and warm up. All swimmers are expected to know or arrange for their rides to and from the away meets. If you are able to drive to a meet, please offer a ride to other swimmers.

What to take: Some suggestions of what to take to away meets, especially long-lasting invitationals (6 hours or more):
chairs and/or blanket
  • umbrellas
  • sunglasses, hat, & sunscreen
  • cash for concession stand
  • water (and snacks, for invitationals)
  • for swimmers: extra goggles and towel, dry clothes to change into
  • for invitationals: in addition to the items above, books, magazines, card games, etc., to pass the time, since invitationals can take more than 6 hours from warm-ups to the last heat of the final event

Championships

Championships are usually held at White Oak Heritage pool on a Saturday in late July. Our team philosophy is "Every swimmer shall swim at least once in a meet, either in competition or as an alternate." For championships, however, there are no alternate events. For championships, our coaches will prepare the best and fastest line-up possible to give Blackridge the opportunity to win a trophy for the team.
