Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I join your pool – what makes it different?
  • Our pool is a community pool made up of different neighborhoods and school districts. Because our pool is not tied to a specific neighborhood or borough you can meet new people. It is nice because we all have a bunch of “pool friends” we may not see all year round.
  • In addition to the pool, we have a playground right through the gates. We also offer grills so you can cook your own dinner.
  • We offer a range of social programs from teen nights, and family swim to adult only Salsa Saturdays. We also have parties for Memorial Day and Labor Day.  See what's in store on our calendar.

Why not just join Sandcastle?
Sandcastle is a fun place! Our pool targets a different experience. Do you want an intense and fun afternoon at a water park? Go to Sandcastle. Do you want a community pool where your kids make summer friends and you build relationships with your neighbors?  Our pool is where you want to be.

Do I need to live in Blackridge to join the pool?
The Blackridge Swim Club is open to everyone – you do not need to live in Blackridge or even in a specific zip code. All Swim Club members do need to be members of the Blackridge Civic Association.

How can I pay my membership? You can pay your membership two ways:
  • Check - either dropped off at the pool or mailed to P.O. Box 17102, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
  • Online using Pay Pal or a credit card.
  • Everyone needs to pay Blackridge Civic Association dues.

Why do pool members need to pay Blackridge Civic Association dues?
  • While the pool is a separate organization the Civic Association maintains the park, Civic Association building and parking lot.
  • The Swim Club shares some service with the Civic Association membership such as garbage collection and maintaining the parking lot.
  • Civic Association dues are $50 per year.

What is the Blackridge Civic Association?
The Blackridge Civic Association was founded in 1944 to promote the welfare and sense of neighborhood in the Blackridge community. It is responsible for maintaining the park, the Civic Association building and parking lot. It also offers a variety of social and educational events.

If I’m interested in the pool can I check it out for free?
We do offer several free look days for potential members:
  • Memorial Day
  • Other free community days posted on our Calendar

If you are interested we can give you a free day pass to check out our pool and see if you would like to join. We limit these free passes to one per family per year.  Just email membership@blackridgeswimclub.org for more info.

Do you sell day passes?
We do not offer day passes. We value the sense of community that comes from having a steady membership base.

What are your rules?
We want to keep our members safe and make sure we all have a great experience at the pool.  Our pool rules help us to do that.  A full set of Pool Rules can be found right here.

What are your hours of operation?
Our hours of operation are seven days a week from noon to 8 pm. During the first week of June we have reduced day time hours since many children are still in school. The pool is also closed select Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to close for swim meets.

How do I know when the pool is closed?
If the pool is closed due to weather we will send an e-mail or text out to the membership using rainedout.com, a service members can sign up for by texting BLACKRIDGE to 84483.  Or go to the rainedout.com and search for Blackridge Swim Club to sign up online.

We also publish general updates via email, our news feed, online calendar, or on Twitter at @blackridgepool.

Can I rent the pool?
  • Only Swim Club members can rent the pool.
  • The rental rate is $50/hour after 8pm plus $40 for lifeguards.  The minimum rental is two hours.
  • If you are interested, see our rental agreement and e-mail rentals@blackridgeswimclub.org.

Do you have a swim team?
The Blackridge Barracudas are open to all pool members under 18. The team practices daily in the morning (Monday through Friday) and twice a week during the evening – Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Swimmers need only go to morning or evening practices.  Swim meets are Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are a member of the Eastern Swim Association. If you are interested in swim team please e-mail barracudas@blackridgeswimclub.org.

Do you offer swim lessons?
We offer both group and private swim lessons. We will have two sets of four 30-minute group lessons in 2019 starting  June 10 and June 17.  The price is $40 for members, $80 for non-members.  Sessions start at 11:30 am Monday through Thursday (with makeups for missed days on Friday).  You can either stop by the pool after opening day for more information or email manager@blackridgeswimclub.org to sign up.
